House in the Woods Project

The goal of this project was to design a home in the woods for two fabricated clients based off their personal daily schedules and routine. The House in the Woods Project built up the vital skill of designing a program and structure for specific individuals.

This was the first project that I added functionality into with the included lights. These lights pushed the concept of approachability and familiarity that my "clients" required.

"In the dark hours of the night, this House in the Woods illuminates its surrounding environment as if it were a lantern or a lamppost found at the end of an old pine wood trail. The structure was designed around the concept of approachability, allowing for frequent hosting of guests and family by the clients. The main method used to accomplish this requires large sections of the exterior walls to be constructed out of thin wood beams spaced evenly by open slits. These walls not only allow light to enter the building effectively and efficiently on the east and west sides, but the walls also allow the house to give light back to the forest. Another aspect of this house that expands on the benefits of the slitted walls is the layout of the interior.  Rooms that are often filled with people are placed against these walls, which allows visitors to feel at home and connected to the house even if they have never been there"
